Spotlight On: MAC Mystery

Finish: Satin / Muted plum brown

Known Dupes: Brun, UD Busted

Mystery is a deep, muddy brown shade with purple undertones that is the perfect addition to your neutral palette. It is a matte formula with no shimmer; it doesn’t blend very easily when applied to the crease, so I generally prefer it moreso on the lid itself. The key with this one is to apply it sparingly for your looks. It creates beautiful depth when used to define the crease, especially if you have a lighter color on the lid and a medium shade in the crease above it.

  1. Those are great looks and I have the colors for them too! One I just tried out and it looked good for a day look was:

    Orb – Wash
    Haux – Crease
    Mystery – Outer Corner
    DipDown – Fluidline to line

    It looked really good. Thanks!

    1. Any light to medium orange would be beautiful in its place! Rule used lightly, Samoa Silk, UD Freelove, Chopper from the UD Naked2 palette just as some examples!

      1. Unfortunetely I don’t own any of these shades… I was a litte too slow to pick up Samoa Silk before it was dicontinued 🙁 but would Ablaze work, too?

I am always amazed by how fast you are to help us all out. Z, you ROCK! 🙂

        1. Aww, you’re welcome! That’s why I’m here! 😀
Hmmm, Ablaze has a little more pinky-coral to it so it would change the look slightly, but it’s worth a shot!

        2. I watch a MUA on YouTube that works at a MAC store and she said they still get sent Samoa Silk all the time but also, Makeup Geek’s Peach Smoothie is a good dupe.

  2. Was looking at this one in the store. Paired well with Vex. but didn’t get it b/c I wanted to come home and see all the options you have done with this. Could this one be updated??
