Spotlight On: MAC Stars ‘N Rockets

Finish: Veluxe Pearl / Purple with pink pearlΒ

Stars ‘N Rockets is quite an interesting shade and definitely not for the faint of heart! This is a purple shade with blue tones, so it is suitable for cooler complexions. It reminds me of Plum Dressing, but with a blue base rather than Plum’s red base. If you find it difficult to wear Plum Dressing, I recommend trying this one instead. As with most bright colors, I’ll give them a chance before dismissing them, but I wasn’t quite sure about Stars ‘N Rockets . . . until I discovered combination #3 (see below)! This color is most suitable for weekends and evening events in my opinion, but with combo #3, it’s subtle enough to be worn to the office (unless you work in a really conservative environment). If you find Stars ‘N Rockets makes you look sickly, try warming it up with browns and blending the color out with a good brush.

Look #1

MAC eyeshadows used:

  • Woodwinked (on lid, below crease)
  • Stars ‘N Rockets (crease)
  • Vanilla (blend and highlight)

  1. I think the most Girls just only have the Problems that they think that it wonΒ΄t be good looking. But u can all wipe away an start again, the only Point is: You need Time. Then YouΒ΄ll know whats good looking on you πŸ˜‰

    1. Exactly – good point! Like you said, it’s best to practice with a new eyeshadow when you have time to do so and “prepare” your favorite combinations in your mind for days when you have a schedule.

  2. Thanks for all the ideas! I’ve worn stars n’ rockets accented with parfait amour for years. Looks very similar to your mix with satellite dreams. I’ve never even thought to try mixing with some you have here like woodwinked and soft brown that I already own. And now I want to go buy a couple more!

  3. I would love to see a picture of it under a black base (like a black paint pot, etc)…I’ve heard Stars N Rockets has a duo chrome & looks totally different over a black base! I’m getting SNR very SOON and it will be the first thing I try! πŸ™‚

  4. I am in LOVE with Look #2!!! I have Stars n Rockets and a color very similar to vanilla(Brulee ,Wet n Wild…at least I’m pretty sure it’s close enough) but Im curious about Satellite Dreams…Ive read on numerous pages that NYX Purple and/or Deep Purple are dupes to it, both of which i own…What do you think?? I would hate to go buy SD from MAC if I already have colors that are real close, ya know? Thanks girl!!

    1. Oh, I love that one too! No doubt! Don’t spend it on one if you already have something similar! πŸ™‚ You can always try it and see what happens – any deep purple shade would be beautiful in place of Satellite Dreams, in my opinion. Even if you had something like Nocturnelle. I don’t have the NYX shades you mentioned, so I can’t compare them to SD myself, but do try it with a deep purple and see what happens! πŸ™‚

      1. Awesome!! I just remembered I also have MAC Blanc Type which I could use too, instead of Vanilla…I seem to always gravitate towards purples, silvers, taupes when looking for eyeshadows…Im trying to branch out more and have been getting greens and blues to play around with…Sumptuous Olive being one besides the two looks you show here, what colors go good with it?? Its such a cool, unique color, but it has like a greenish-brownish duochrome finish that makes it a lil tough for me to find a compatible color to put with it…Thanks for replying so quickly!! OH! and I added a pin for your site to my Pinterest board!!!:)

  5. I know this may sound silly, but when I’m not sure if a combo will look good on me, sometimes I wash my face earlier in the evening and try them out, so I know for sure…plus it gives me extra practice in general with applying and blending colors

  6. Can I just go on record and say how much I love using this shade with the Naked3 palette? Naked3 has some great darker shades you can put on the outer half or outer third of the lid, but using Stars ‘n Rockets for the outer half or third of the lid really pairs nicely with Naked3’s colors…especially for spring! πŸ˜€

      1. Hi Karah!, I like using Limit in the crease (you can deepen the crease with Nooner) and apply Burnout on the inner 2/3 of the lid, with Stars and Rockets on the outer 3rd of the lid πŸ˜€ Another lid option: you can put Dust on inner third, Burnout in middle of lid, and S&R on outer third πŸ˜‰
