I wasn’t too sure about Quarry after I received it, as it looked exactly like Shale in the pan as I had remembered it. I immediately had a sinking feeling in my stomach, but figured I’d give it a go and see what I could come up with before dismissing it. The verdict? Eh. Even though it reminds me a lot of Shale in the pan, it applies on the lid similar to Haux, and if you had a choice between this and Haux, I’d pick Haux. I’m not in love with this eyeshadow, but would consider keeping it based on combo #1 alone and possibly #5. I did read in several places this shade looks nice when layered over Painterly Paint Pot as it’s not as dark, so do try that as well if you have issues with looking bruised. We’ll see if this post gets anymore love in the future. 🙂

On my skin, Quarry looks like the matte version of Satin Taupe. I like to use ST over my lid and then blend it out with Quarry in the crease–it’s really simple and pretty on days when I don’t have a lot of time to do my makeup. Awesome site, by the way–really useful! You’ve listed a ton of combos I never would have thought of.

Thanks for the combination, Eva! I just might have to try that as Satin Taupe is especially beautiful when used with purple shades like Quarry.
And thanks for the compliments – glad to hear you’re enjoying the site! 😀

Didn’t you have a post on Shale at some point? I think you didnt like it, but if you could put it back up, I’d love that! I like the color but I need ideas for it. I always use your combos, they work great.

Hi Sarah,
Yes, you’re right – I did. I took it down to redo the pictures as they were really horrible, but I’ve neglected buying another Shale (I swapped my first one away).
I should have the revamped post ready by December – I’ll be sure to announce it then.
Thanks! 🙂

For look #5, there seems to be another dark brown shadow at the outer v, do you remember which it is? 🙂

Hi Amy,
Nope, all eyeshadows for that look are listed. It could be the way the light is reflecting off my eye in that picture. 🙂

Love 2 , 5, 7 and 8. I too find it to be a matte version of shale. I am seeing though that I “need” blackberry to go with it!

LOL! Blackberry is a great one to have!! It’s one of the easiest dark purple shades I’ve worked with!

all look beautiful to me:-)

Mixing Quarry together with Concrete in the crease, with Yogurt on the lid, makes a nice go-to look for me 🙂
Zabrena
That sounds gorgeous! Thanks for adding that combo! 😉

Silly question….but when you are applying color to the inner and outer third of the lid (such as look #6 which I LOVE), is there a certain brush you recommend using? Or does the type of brush used for this purpose depend on the actual shade you are putting on? Thanks, Z!
Zabrena
Hi Peggy!
I always use the MAC 239 for my lid! 😉
