Spotlight On: MAC Samoa Silk

Finish: Veluxe / Polynesian peach

Samoa Silk is such a creamy eyeshadow that is extremely easy to apply and shows up amazing well. If you have green or blue eyes (and you can wear oranges well), Samoa Silk should definitely be one to consider adding to your collection. This color also does amazing things for brown eyed gals. Paired with browns for more of a neutral look, or with pinks for brighter looks, this is one of those shades with endless possibilities. I personally love to pair it with pinks and more red based browns; it’s also great with darker oranges. If you have been lemming for the discontinued Tete-A-Tint, Samoa Silk is a great replacement, too.

*Update: Samoa Silk has since been discontinued by MAC, so if you’re looking for a replacement shade, MakeupGeek’s Peach Smoothie is a close dupe.

  1. I love this these combos. I don’t think i could pick one as a favorite. You have amazing creativity! All of your looks are beautiful and unique! Thanks for sharing your talent!

    1. Aww, thank you for your sweet compliments, Elizabeth! It thrills me to no end to hear you’re enjoying the combos!! 🙂

    1. Hi Helle!
Thank you for taking the time to visit the site and ask! I’d love to tell you what was used, however I’m not sure which combo it is you’re talking about. 🙁 Also the site has over 700 pictures of combinations that are reserved for members so out of respect for them, I wouldn’t be able to reveal the eyeshadows used – my apologies! You’re more than welcome to become a member though at anytime; I think you’d find the combination library very useful at an inexpensive rate! 🙂 Thank you again!

  2. Thank you for answering 🙂
It’s the picture I link to, it’s Samoa Silk and something either lighter or darker.
I’d love to become a member, it looks like a great site!

  3. Mythical and Samoa Silk really go together beautifully. I get confused sometimes between Mythical and Mythology lol

    1. Hi! It means taking an eyeshadow that is close to your own natural skintone and using a brush like the MAC #217 or 224 to soften rough edges of eyeshadows applied in the crease or other areas of the eye. It creates a “fading” out of the eyeshadow, so it’s natural-looking and seamless. You’re welcome to view some of the tutorials I have on YouTube if you’d like to see it in action.

Or this video I did on blending a while back:

      Hope that helps! 🙂

  4. I did look #3 today, but I don’t have Rule so instead I used Urban Decay’s Freelove, and it turned out awesome!
Thanks so much for all the great ideas!

  5. HELP, SOS!! I’ve never used samoa silk, and am extremely upset to hear that its being discontinued. I’ve checked the site, its gone! What do I do now, must have this! Need to add to my collection! Or, if I must dupe it, any ideas?

    1. I’m so sorry, Jennifer! 🙁
Yes, they discontinued it about two weeks ago. I’m still so sad about that decision.
You could try looking in your local Cosmetic Company Outlet store (just Google for the one nearest you).
They usually carry MAC’s “throw away” eyeshadows; the only close dupe I know of is MakeupGeek’s Peach Smoothie.

      1. I saw that color, and wondered! Since I never really swatched Samoa silk I couldn’t be sure. Thanks Z, once again, you are definitely my eyeshadow consultant! 🙂

    1. Ugh, isn’t that the worst news ever?!
I got their email about it last month and had a FIT! 🙁
MakeupGeek Peach Smoothie is a close dupe, not as matte in finish, but color-wise pretty good.
      Still stinks! 🙁 Boo, MAC!

          1. I tried look #5 today with MUG’s Peach Smoothie in place of the discontinued Samoa Silk, and really love it! I added a touch of Sable in the outer V and it made for a nice addition to this combo (if I do say so myself, LOL). I love my Mac eyeshadows but am also very impressed with Makeup Geeks shadows too (and their pricing)!

          2. Ouu! That sounds lovely!! Thanks for sharing that!
I’m with you, the MUG eyeshadows are very impressive; best affordable option I’ve ever tried compared to MAC! (With the exception of Inglot, of course :))

  6. Hey Z.

I recently found out that Samoa Silk is discontinued and I couldn’t get it before the time 🙁 do you know of a dupe in Mac or Urban Decay or something similar? I really bummed about it. Thanx.

      1. I bought Makeup Geek’s Peach Smoothie and its a great shade! Looks just as Samoa Silk looks in your photos! Thank you!

  7. I know makeup geek has a dupe for Samoa silk but Is there any mac shadows that come even remotely close to it ?
