Spotlight On: MAC Winkle

Finish: Satin / Midtone cornflower blue

Winkle is a medium blue shade with high pigmentation and effortless blending capabilities. I usually don’t find Satin finish eyeshadows easy to work with, but Winkle proved me wrong. I will say I struggled with this post, much as I did with the Freshwater post simply because I just don’t like this color or the way it looks on me. If you have blue eyes, this will be a difficult one to wear as blue eyes appear “lost” with this one and don’t pop. However, if you have brown eyes, this is a definite must for you! Winkle will more than likely be one I swap away for something that better suits me, and because I already have Freshwater, which it is VERY similar to. Ah well!

  1. Love look 2, I just got parisian skies, kind of similar, will use with deep truth and top knot to deepen crease. Let you know how it works out. thanks for the post.

    1. Yes! I saw your email and just haven’t had the chance to respond (sorry!). Let me know what you think! I’m so leary of blues so I don’t think I’d ever get P.S. for myself, but it IS a gorgeous shade!

  2. I’m sorry this shade didn’t work well for you, seeing as how stunning look number 1 is! I think a bronze/brown, neutral lid, with this color added on the inner part of the lower lashline would be absolutely gorgeous with your eye color, Z! I hope you are having a lovely weekend! 🙂

    1. I do love #1 – a LOT! Probably because Winkle is not the main focus and it’s “hidden” enough in the combo. However, I can use Freshwater there too. 🙂 I’ll have to try the technique you mentioned! Thanks!

  3. Wow! I know you say that you aren’t keen on this colour but I think it looks amazing in the looks! It looks fairly similar to MAC Blue Candy (which is a little brighter) that I picked up a couple of months ago, so I think I will definitely try out these looks. I especially love the pairings in Looks 1, 2 and 3!

    1. LOL! Thanks, Saira!
I find I forget how it REALLY looked on me when I go back and look at some of these posts myself. Up close, they are gorgeous, but standing back from the mirror – look out! Yuck! Haha! 🙂

Hope some of these help you with Blue Candy!

      1. I tried look #2 with Blue Candy yesterday and loved how it turned out. I added a little of Vellum over the Blue Candy on the outer lid, just to tone down some of the brightness. Seems to work as a good dupe for Winkle :o) .

  4. I have a color similar to this one, Revlon periwinkle. I have blue eyes, but I’ve found that I really like it in the crease. I tried sin ipon the lid, periwinkle in the crease, and used gunmetal on outer v and to deepen outer crease and it looked pretty good!
BTW- could you maybe swatch the colors you spotlight? That way it’s much easier to see if one owns something similar. Thanks for considering.
