The Glinda palette is not unique to Urban Decay’s collection by any means and I was disappointed in the number of dupes that exist within this palette. Out of all the eyeshadows, the one I liked most would have to be Magic (the pink shade) – big surprise! I found it to be a much more pigmented version of MAC’s Girlie, which I really like also. I may not end up keeping this palette, only because I don’t feel it’s super special and unique compared to eyeshadows I already own. And let’s not forget the intense glitter and fallout of the Oz coupling – UGH!
Dupes?
When I first did the swatches of the top row of the palette, I was instantly reminded of another palette: Too Faced Romantic Eye. The purple eyeshadow in the UD palette, Tornado, is VERY similar to Too Faced’s Ever After, yet slightly lighter. I thought UD Magic would be comparable to Too Faced’s ‘Kiss the Bride’ but it isn’t. Magic has more mauve tones compared to Kiss the Bride’s light, true pink. It’s more comparable to MAC’s Girlie. The blue shade in the Aura split shadow is VERY similar, if not identical to MAC’s Vellum and the pink duochrome shade reminds me of washed out (no peach included) version of MAC’s Motif. The gold side of Oz is highly reminiscent of Half Baked but MUCH more pigmented and chunkier glitter while the silver side of Oz is very dupeable with MAC Electra. Finally, South is VERY dupeable with UD Mushroom or MAC’s Moth Brown. Illusion is a shimmery version of MAC’s Orb.

Other Products with the Palette
Also included with the palette is a purple 24/7 glide-on eye pencil, as well as a super saturated high-gloss lip color. I’m never really enamored with these kinds of items (it’s really just the eyeshadows I want – ha!), but they have been included for those who are interested. π I will say I was pretty impressed with the lip color, as it’s more of a sheer wash of color in a gloss that doesn’t act as a regular lipstick does.
Look #1 – see the full face here!
UD eyeshadows used:
- Aura – pink side (inner half of lid)
- South (outer half of lid and lower lashline)
- Magic (crease)
- MAC Orb (blend)
- MAC Shroom (highlight brow bone)

I don’t think you should take the pallet back. You’ve created great looks with it.

Thank you! π

By the way, are you ever going to try out the Make Up Geek eyeshadows? I just bought some recently, and I would like to see some combinations with those and how they compare to the Mac shades.
My Eyeshadow Consultant
So funny you should mention this! I just received my first ever batch in the mail about three days ago and I’m planning a post with some combos next week! π I’m hoping to add a section for them to the site along with the UD and MAC Directories as well. More soon!

Oh this will be great to see. I’ve checked out Marlena’s shadows and they look excellent and the prices are pretty great but you know me – I don’t really like ordering makeup without seeing it in the flesh first. Seeing them here is the next best thing. Have you tried any of the new Sephora shadows? I’ve only purchased one, from the Chroma line and it’s fabulous. And – big surprise – it’s TAUPE! I’ve looked at their others and are they ever gorgeous.
My Eyeshadow Consultant
I’m the same way! I have tried a Sephora eyeshadow before, not the new ones you mentioned, but was pretty impressed with the one I did try. Hmmmm!
Haha! More taupe than you know what to do with! π

I use MUG “Burlesque” in place of MAC LE “Sweet Chestnut.”

Awesome! It’s great to hear that! *patiently waiting*

Ah, this is great. I’ve had this palette for a while but I’ve never thought of some of these combos. Also, I wore #3 today and a makeup artist told me that it looked professional…so thanks so much for making me look good π
My Eyeshadow Consultant
That’ll definitely make your day! Awesome!
I’m so happy to hear that; that’s my goal! π

I can’t wait for your reviews/combinations of Makeup Geek’s eyeshadows!!! I have been wanting to purchase them but definately want to know your opinion since you have worked with the quality of MAC for a long time π

Aww, another boo hoo post from Lindsay..LoL! So initially i thought this line from Urban Decay was a bit too “young” for my 30+ age and this particular palette a lot different than the all neutral eye & bright red lipstick look i so usually wear. but i bought this palette after Z’s review, after watching the Great &Powerful Oz (and loooooving Michelle Williams soft, beautiful, feminine makeup look!), and mainly bc i just wanted something different for a change! After a month of swaying back and forth (to keep or not to keep?!) , I finally decided to bust this baby open after watching the new Oz again last night. I wanted to try a few shades of Z’s (ever so highly touted!) pink eyeshadows, so I went for looks #2 & 4. I liked the look of a pink shadow in the crease on my fair, cool skin tone (believe it or not!) and received lots of compliments today. But the glitter fallout on the duo-shades is absolutely ridiculous! I have literal chunks of gold and silver glitter in my hair!! And the fallout from these shades has settled under my eyes (which is an even worse problem, considering my age and propensity for fine lines and dark under eye circles )! I will try a few more of Your featured looks here, Z, and maybe experiment on my own with mixing and matching s few of these shades with others not included in this palette. But all in all, I give this palette a C-, just in my opinion , i don’t think it’s for someone like me. :/ Bummer cos I wanted to try something totally opposite if what I normally wear ? Well, at least the Super Saturated Lip pencil in Naked is fabulous! I received the shade F-bomb as a gift (of course, it’s the brightest s, boldest red!) and I looooove the formula! Glad the lip pencil in the Glinda palette is identical to their sshade Naked , in their permanent collection! I’ll be buying one of those again, I am sure.

Awww! LOL!
I can completely see where you’re coming from.
The duo shades do have an ABSURD amount of fallout, you’re right!
I liked the saturated lip pencils too! In both this one and the Theodora palettes. π
Thanks for sharing your experience, Lindsay! π XOXO!

Very pretty!

Hi Zabrena! I was just wondering if you plan on putting together any other looks for this palette. Thanks!
Jacqueline Blahut
I’m so happy you have this palette! I just received it a few days ago for a steal off of UD’a site! I’m going to give these looks a try. They are gorgeous!
Zabrena
YAYYYY! Enjoy!! New one was added today (see #6)! π
Jacqueline Blahut
Wow!!! I think that may be my favorite of all of them! Gorgeous! I would be lost without your help. LOL!
Flavia Artizzu
The last combo is absolutely gorgeous! I have to try it! I LOVE this palette!

I’ve had this palette sitting at home for ages and haven’t really used it, except to swipe on a little Magic one morning while I was rushing otut he door at a conference. These looks are absolutely beautiful! While the colors may not be exactly unique in the palette, I can’t wait to crack it back open and recreate these!
Zabrena
YAY! Enjoy!! π
Lindsey
Hey Zabrena,
I am new to this site as of today. I found you through YouTube. I got this palette and I really like it! I have a lot of makeup, but I don’t always know how to apply it, (or am too lazy), so I don’t wear it as often as I’d like to. The only look I have done with this palette is copying the card. This site will definitely be helpful though to make a variety of looks with the makeup I have. I wish you had the Theodora palette so I could copy your looks on that one as well! I have copied the card that came with it but added MAC’s Amber Lights in the center for a pop of color!
