Spotlight On: MAC Purple Haze

purplehazeFinish: Matte / Intense purple

Purple Haze! A beautiful, vibrant blue-leaning purple that thankfully comes in an easy to work with matte formula. This is a lovely purple for those of you with cooler complexions that may find some of the warmer/red-toned purples (i.e. Plum Dressing, Creme de Violet, etc.) harder to work with. I did find that I preferred applying Purple Haze on the lid after a purple base had been applied (if you don’t have the one I used below, Maybelline has a purple color tattoo base that would work well too). Applied to the lid by itself with no base, I found it to have more of a blotchy application than I would’ve liked. After working with this one, it reminds me of a matte version of Satellite Dreams. If you don’t like Satellite Dreams’s finish, I’d recommend trying Purple Haze instead. And if you own Purple Haze and are looking for more combos to use with it, you may also check the Satellite Dreams post for more inspiration. Now I simply need to decide which I like better to keep!

Look #1

MAC eyeshadows used:

  • Half Wild Paint Pot LE (as a base, below crease)
  • Purple Haze (on lid, below crease)
  • Dynamo LE (crease)
  • Orb (blend)

  1. Beautiful job Zabrena! 🙂 I’ve been looking forward to this Spotlight. Love the idea of Half Wild Paint Pot LE. I have that one so that’s good. I love Satellite Dreams so I’m sure I’ll like Purple Haze. I have it but haven’t used it yet. I hope you continue to do even more looks with Purple Haze in the future! 🙂
I don’t know if I’ve mentioned in the past about the slight difference between Plum Dressing and Hepcat? If I did forgive me. 🙂 You mentioned it in the beginning and it made me think about it. Anyway, awhile back I did the look you have under Plum Dressing with Kid or Malt I believe, with P.D. on lid and Kid in the crease. Beautiful look by the way! I have both P.D. and Hepcat ,and I wondered are they just dupes ,or is there any difference between them? I think there is. Hepcat is a little cooler than P.D. They are dupes too ,but I think if ladies that have tried Plum Dressing and it is too red for them, they should try Hepcat. This is just my opinion. I really like both eyeshadows though. Thanks for all your hard work Zabrena. 🙂

    1. Thanks! 😀
I know you’ll just love Purple Haze!
I am planning to do more with it in the future, no worries!

I haven’t gotten Hepcat myself yet, but thank you for providing that feedback for the cooler ladies here.
I read somewhere that it and Plum Dressing were dupes of one another also, so I’ll be interested in comparing the two.
I must put Hepcat on the shopping list!

  2. Do you think Half-Wild is worth acquiring? I know it’s hard to find but the looks you’ve used with it so far are so gorgeous.

    1. Hi! I think if you can find it for a reasonable price, most definitely.
But Maybelline makes a purple color tattoo that is very close to Half-Wild and you can easily get those, much cheaper too! 😉

  3. I may have to try this one. I have had some pretty bad allergic reactions to MAC’s purples, but the last time I tried was a few years ago. I really want to add some purples back into my eyeshadows! These are all really pretty.

    1. Oh no! I’m sorry to hear that! 🙁
I hope if you try this one that it’s one that agrees with you!
If it doesn’t you can take it back to MAC, even though I know how painful that is 🙁

  4. Very happy to see this spotlight! I have had this shade about 7 years now, and never knew what to do with it.lol I think look #1 is my fave very nice wiht dynamo! Although I’m sad to say I was looking around mac website and seen this shade and a few other perms in the goodbyes.

    1. Hi Elizabeth!
Oh poo! I just went and looked – saw it there – what a bummer! 🙁
Look #1 is my absolute fav with it too, it just makes my eyes look so magnetic!

      1. Hi Z!
I was wondering if UD’s Freelove could be used as a dupe for Dynamo? I thought it might be too light. Also what about Coppering? Milani has a dupe for Coppering in Flare. Your much better with dupes than I am, but I thought I would give my two cents worth! lol 🙂

        1. I always enjoy your two cents! 🙂
Freelove would be VERY beautiful in place of Dynamo in Look #1; it would be a little lighter though, you’re right. You’d lose some of the intense orange you see in Dynamo, but it would still be beautiful! I’m not too familiar with the Milani shade you mentioned, but I bet you’re right! It seems to me I read that somewhere a long while back, so I faintly remember it.

  5. Beautiful looks,Zabrena! I especially like Look #2. I have Purple Haze and I used to use it all the time. I haven’t used it for ages, though,so your Spotlight post has really drawn my attention back to it. Yaaay! It looks especially beautiful in the crease with Da Bling on the lid and Vanilla to highlight.

  6. Was looking up swatches of Purple Haze and I’m so glad I came across this page! Awesome use of colours. Miss seeing such inspiring EOTDs!
