Spotlight On: MAC Ground Brown

groundbrownFinish: Matte / Deep rich brown

Ground Brown is a deep dark, highly pigmented dark brown (notice how I said ‘dark’ twice there LOL it’s DARK!). The minute I saw it in the pan I was instantly reminded of Brown Down and if you’re wondering how the two compare to one another, you definitely aren’t alone! I instantly ran to my makeup cabinet and dug out Brown Down to compare the two. Honestly, the two are one in the same, which is probably why MAC decided to discontinue Brown Down. The only minor difference worth mentioning is Brown Down has an ever so slightly more red tint to it compared to Ground Brown and that only appears more visible when they’re swatched side by side. If you’re wondering if you need both, I’d say absolutely not and I actually prefer Brown Down, myself (it’s just easier to work with). Overall, meh, I could leave Ground Brown.

Look #1

MAC eyeshadows used:

  • Ground Brown (on lid, below crease)
  • Texture (crease)
  • Blanc Type (blend)

  1. Hi Z,
Pretty looks as always. 🙂 It seems MAC has too many browns, and so many look like each other. This will not be one I purchase. I do really like 2,5,& 6 though. You made a good statement a week or two ago, about ladies that are older and wearing all matte shadows. You said that it can make them look older. Also, it can make us younger ones look older too. Very true. This shade is a matte and it made me think of what you said. lol! Thank you for all your hard work Z! 🙂

  2. I have Brown Down and I can’t wait to replicate and try out these looks. Thanks for the inspiration!!!

  3. Hi Zabrena, just subscribed to your site & I must say it’s wonderful. I just recently bought ground brown & personally I love it. I especially like looks #4 & 6. I am so excited to be able to see all your wonderful looks now & try them as we’ll.
