Naval is a beautiful, deep, dark blue and best of all – it’s matte! In my experience with many of MAC’s matte shades, I find them to apply splotchy and are somewhat hard to get an evenly applied look without some negotiating. Fortunately, you won’t find that in Naval. I don’t know what they’ve done differently, but the formula is smooth and very easy to work with. It applies easily and blends with just the tiniest touch of a brush. The color is also the perfect shade for adding contrast in a look with some of the brighter blues; my favorites to pair it with are Moon’s Reflection and Vellum for a dramatic but seamless look. It reminds me a lot of limited edition shade Prussian, not only in how easy it is to work with, but the shade of blue as well. However, swatched side by side with Prussian, Naval has more of a purple base color whereas Prussian is a true deep blue. So even though it appears to be navy blue, it truly does have a more purple base that becomes more visible beside a true deep blue. I didn’t expect to like Naval, but I really do. If dark blues are your favorite, Naval is definitely one you can’t skip!
