Spotlight On: MUG Unexpected

unexpectedComparable to: MAC Quarry, UD Tease

Unexpected is a matte purple shade that is incredibly easy to work with in terms of application and blending. I mostly like to use this eyeshadow as a transition color in the crease, and it pairs nicely with colorful eyeshadows to your more neutral shades. Compared to MAC and UD’s versions, I find Unexpected to be a little bit more pigmented, slightly more purple and a little easier to work with. This also pairs beautifully with so many different purples, including cool and warm shades, and I feel this is one of those colors that can suit warm and cool complexions alike. If you’re looking for a staple MakeupGeek eyeshadow to begin your collection with, this is definitely one to include!

  1. How different would you say this shade is between Quarry and UD’s Tease? It seems to look more like Tease (or MAC’s Haux) but always hard to tell from a photo 😉 Oh to have a MUG store in town, LOL! I must say I love Makeup Geek shadows, they are so beautiful, highly pigmented and oh so affordable!!!

  2. Your list of dupes is (pardon the pun) eye-opening because in the photo (at least on my monitor), this looks like a very red-toned brown (more like Mulch than like Quarry). Since I’ve got Tease and Quarry (and now Nars Tokyo with a shade very similar to Quarry), this is one I don’t need to fret over. Z, have you seen some of the new eye shadows from Sephora’s own brand? They are so “wantably” beautiful and my experience with their newer eye products (shadows, jumbo pencils and thinner eye pencils) has been 100% terrific. Prices are hard to beat too and for a Canadian, they are much more accessible than Makeup Geek.

  3. Looking forward to more MUG shades in the future 🙂 Just started on my first MAC palette too. I’ve been busy lol.
