Too Faced Chocolate Bar Palette Tutorial

chocolatebar1Okay, so I’ll admit I was REAL hesitant to get this palette simply because of my experiences with Too Faced eyeshadow palettes in the past. (None I have tried so far have been incredibly outstanding, unfortunately.) However, I am very happy to say I am most pleasantly surprised by the Chocolate Bar Palette!

While I don’t fancy that they didn’t put the eyeshadow names on the box anywhere (rather on a flimsy piece of plastic), the shade range offered is rather impressive and the finishes are delightful. Smooth, buttery and most of them apply beautifully straight out of the pan.

My most favorite shade in this palette is most definitely Candied Violet, so that’s what I chose to use in today’s look. Unfortunately this is one of the shades in the palette that doesn’t transfer from the pan to your eyes as it looks, so it takes some finessing. So in today’s tutorial I’ll show you my tricks for getting it to apply as it appears in the pan!

        1. Yes, sorry about that. Long story short our hosting company changed the firewall settings over there and it got hacked. Thankfully, we caught it when it happened so no damage was done. It’s in the process of being cleaned and secured again. No worries though, all of our billing and customer info is kept on an entirely separate website, so nothing was affected in that regard. The hosting company took the site down temporarily while it’s being repaired to eliminate any visitors’ computers from potentially being infected. πŸ™‚ Will be back up soon!

  2. Pretty look. πŸ™‚ I’m definitely not getting this palette though. It’s too warm toned, dupable, and I just really dislike Two Faced e/s. They’re a few e/s that are not too warm but their the lighter shades. Your pic is beautiful but in the video C.V. looks more dark brown. That’s probably one of the reasons why C.V. Is rated so badly. It’s a shame that you have to use a purple paint pot and MAC Fix+ to try to get an e/s to have good color and pigmentation. Two Faced really needs to step it up and make a fabulous e/s palette, and quit talking about “magical cocoa powder” that’s in the palette’s eyeshadows.

    1. I know πŸ™ I would’ve liked for CV to show up as it appears in the pan without so much manipulation! I feel like Too Faced is making great strides in the direction of improving their eyeshadows with this palette though, it’s a lot better than the other ones we’ve tried for sure (and I didn’t think I’d like it honestly). I do hope they continue this streak! πŸ˜€

  3. LOVEEEEEEEEEE this look! And I really want to buy this palette now, but im in the process of buying a new house and on a no buy for “wants” as the hubby would say (Which is KILLING ME! MAC alluring aquatic, K. Osbourne collection, ect.) and I feel like this palette is dupeable from shadows I already own… which is why I LOVE this website, because I am sure if I am patient you will tell us the dupes! <3 RIIIIIGHT?! LOL πŸ˜‰

      1. Until Zabrena has the time to do a dupes list for this one, Temptalia has a lot of dupes (not always MAC ones but also Makeup Geek, UD and other brands) in the review she did of this palette. Hope it’s okay to mention that here. If you go to her site and use the top right search box, you’ll find her review and lots of dupes.

  4. I have been debating back and forth about getting this palette. Now I see that Lorac is coming out with a Pro Palettte 2 in a few weeks. What is a girl to do… I really don’t need both or do I???

    1. I really am SO excited for the LORAC Pro 2 palette! I feel like it’s more of the one to get than this one, honestly. This palette is good, but if LORAC’s #2 is anything like their first one, that’s a must-have!

      1. That is what I was kind of thinking although I have $100 in Ulta gift cards so maybe I’ll get both… I think I will use the Lorac one more though.

  5. Love this look! And I’m not familiar with Hue lipstick, but what a perfect choice! FYI I’ve recently fallen in love with Dose of Colors lipsticks….have you been to their site? πŸ˜‰

      1. Oh you MUST try a Dose of Colors lipstick (or two)! ;-D I find a few of the lipsticks are going to be beautiful for summer looks!

  6. a) Your hair is just GORGEOUS

    b) How do you achieve that shimmer around the lower aide area of your eye? It catches the light and looks soft!!!

    c) Thank you for your video!

    1. Thank you, Barbara! You make me blush! πŸ™‚
The shimmer could be that new concealer I was using in this video, it has a lightening effect from what it says on the card; it’s the one from Benefit called ‘FakeUp’ if you’re interested πŸ˜‰

  7. I got this palette back in January and I’m SO GLAD I have it. With the exception of Natural at Night, I’ve found TF’s palettes to be excellent (sure, most have some glitter-bombs in ’em, but that’s true of a lot of palettes from many companies) but this one is spectacular and truly has everything you need in one palette. I like that Candied Violet isn’t too intense. That makes it a more wearable shade for me (so at work, my eyes aren’t SCREAMING “look at this PURPLE eyeshadow!”) but I can intensify it easily if I want to. My biggest issue with this palette is the chocolate scent. I’m not bothered by fragranced products and I “GET” that it’s part of the “theme”, but even so, it strikes me as really odd and foolish to make eyeshadows that are scented since that will immediately make this palette a “no go” zone for so many.

    1. I for one am not fancying the chocolate smell myself, usually because I don’t really care for the heavier smells they sometimes put in makeup products, skincare products especially. To have this in my eyeshadow … argghh, not liking that part of it πŸ™

      1. I don’t mind the scent and I don’t notice it once I apply the shadow and put the palette away but it really surprises me that so many are saying “…and I love the wonderful chocolate smell – yum” because so many people freak out about scented moisturizers or face washes, etc. and yet very few are saying “Hunh? Scented eyeshadow – what the heck is with THAT?” And when so many companies are boasting “fragrance free”, it just seems odd to me. But I still love this palette like crazy.

  8. I love this look, but I don’t know if I’ll buy a deep purple color base for it because I don’t think I’d use it for anything else. If I use nyx’s white pencil as a base on the lid, I find that the color from candied violet shows up pretty well and very similar to how it looks in the pan.

I am so glad you got this palette and liked it as well. I’ve been wearing it almost exclusively for 3.5 months (which is a big deal considering how many eyeshadows I own).

  9. I’m in love with this palette! I’m a big fan of TF palettes. However, I don’t like chocolate so much to taste but this smells yummy! Some day when I’m feeling like a feisty 52 yr old I’ll give this bold look a try. I’d like to see more looks Z!

  10. firstly… HUGS- to you, hubby, and Inky. πŸ™

2nd- Z!!!! my palette came in the mail yesterday, SO I tried a look similar to this, I used salted caramel as my transitional shade, cherry cordial to deepen the crease, candied violet on the lid OVER Makeup Geeks Gel Liner in Amethyst and the matte shade in the palette as my brow color, and the strawberry bon bon on my inner corner… it turned out FABULOUS! thank you so much for the inspiration! πŸ™‚

    1. Thank you for the hugs, Hailey! πŸ™‚

YAY!!! OMG! The combo you described sounds gawwwwgeous! I need to get more of the MUG gel liners in different colors, they’re fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing that look!

  11. Hi Z!
Gorgeous Look!!! You spoil and inspire us as usual!
I love the colors in this palette and I’m a faithful
chocolate consumer but completely hate the smell
Of these eyeshadows… So I didn’t get it!
However I do hope you will put together a dupe list.
I’m most interested in Cherry Cordial, Candied Violet
    And Ganache… Any suggestions?
    Thank you!
