Face of the Day: Anyday Elegance

For today’s Face of the Day, I wanted something neutral but I also wanted to add some definition to the eyes so they popped … and this look was born! Even though I’m using a black eyeshadow in this look, used lightly, you can get more of a day-friendly gray look. Once applied lightly onto the outer half of the lid and blended up into the outer v, I also used the same black eyeshadow to line the upper and lower lashlines to keep the look soft. For full details on how to recreate the look, you’re welcome to see the instructions below the pictures! πŸ˜‰

If you want to recreate this look with MAC or Urban Decay, you could also use the following in place of the MakeupGeek eyeshadows used:

  • MUG Creme Brulee = MAC Soft Brown (no exact dupe for UD, but can use any brown)
  • MUG Shimma Shimma = MAC Shroom OR UD Bootycall OR UD Venus (from Naked Basics)
  • MUG Corrupt = MAC Carbon OR UD Blackout OR UD Crave (from Naked Basics)

EYES

  • Apply an eyeshadow primer (I used one from NARS)
  • Apply MUG Creme Brulee in the crease with a fluffy brush, like the MUG Soft Dome Brush
  • Blend out the harsh edges of Creme Brulee with a shade that matches your skintone (I used MUG’s Vanilla Bean)
  • Apply MUG Shimma Shimma to the inner half of the lid
  • Use a tiny amount of MUG Corrupt at a time, and apply it to the outer half of the lid
  • Blend Shimma Shimma into Corrupt by patting in between where they meet
  • Bring MUG Corrupt into the outer v with a pointed brush like the MUG Small Crease Brush
  • Blend Creme Brulee with Corrupt in the outer v until no harsh edges are visible
  • Clean up any rough edges with your blending shade
  • Line upper and lower lashine with MUG Corrupt
  • Fill in the brows; I used Laura Mercier’s Brow Defining Gel in Fair
  • Apply false eyelashes, if desired; I used Red Cherry’s #WSP pair

FACE

  • Apply concealer (I used Rimmel’s Match Perfection in ‘Classic Ivory’)
  • Apply foundation (I used Lancome Teint Idole in #100 Ivoire N
  • Set the face with a pressed powder (I used one from MUFE)
  • Apply a coral-toned blush (I used MAC’s Peachykeen)

LIPS

  • Apply a coral-pink toned lipstick as a base shade (I used MAC’s Hibiscus)
  • Apply a lighter nude over it and blend the two together (I used MAC’s Creme d’Nude)
  • Note: You could also use Too Faced’s Juicy Melons here, as the effect is similar

  1. Oh I just love this look! Can’t wait to try! Looks like I need to check out Hibiscus from MAC as well! I love blending lip shades πŸ™‚

    1. YAY! πŸ˜€ Hibiscus is one of those limited edition shades, unfortunately. Ugh, MAC. I found it in a CCO a while back, but if you have a coral-pink lipstick, that would work just as well! πŸ˜‰

      1. MAC Hibiscus lipstick reminds me a bit of MAC Crosswires lipstick. That might be another good option. πŸ™‚ I wish MAC would bring back Viva Glam Cyndi Lauper. It was a perfect cool toned red/coral that’s not overwhelming. I found a close dupe for it, but I like the MAC version the best.

  2. Z, this is one of my all time favorites! You are so beautiful. I love this eyeshadow look, I must recreate it.

  3. Have you used MUG’s Envy before? I just got it and haven’t used it yet, and wondered if you have tried it and like it or not? Thanks

    1. Hey babe! Yes! I really like it for the simple fact that there aren’t many dark greens out there πŸ™ Not sure why. It looks amazing with Pastorale pigment and brighter greens, even with shades like Phloof! and Shroom πŸ™‚ I like to combine it up with MUG’s Peach Smoothie in the crease, too!

  4. Great and so simple. Everytime I reach for a light neutral and combine it with black I get positively surprised. Lips looks gorgeous too.
On MUGs Homepage they listen tete a tint as dupe for creme brulee. What is your opinion on that?
Will buy MUG in the autumn but I just can’t wear soft brown due to the pink in it. Or what it could be….

  5. I love this look. I also have a few eyeshadows l have purchased because l loved the colours but really had trouble wearin them. I replaced carbon with these colours and they are now wearable πŸ™‚

    1. Ooh, you’re a lawyer?! Both my parents were lawyers and Ibecame an amateur lawyer at home at 9 years old. No wonder why I was the freaky smart kid with no friends! πŸ˜‰
